Understanding Bioidentical Hormones
BioTE®’s bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) means replacement of your body’s natural hormones with hormones that are biologically and molecularly identical to those your body used to produce. In other words, bioidentical hormones have the same exact chemical structure and look the same under the microscope as those produced naturally by your body. This is different than synthetic hormones such as Prempro, Vivelle, and Premarin, which are not specifically designed for you and are often too strong and produce unbearable side effects. What are bioidentical hormones?
Bioidentical hormones are derived from plants and have the same chemical structure as the hormones manufactured by our bodies. Drug companies cannot patent a bioidentical structure; therefore they create “synthetic” hormones. The compounding pharmacy we use, BioTE, uses hormones are derived from natural sources such as soy and glandular extracts and are made at a compounding pharmacy to our specifications. Prescription drugs such as as Synthroid, Levothyroxin, Premarin and Provera are synthetic and we believe could be toxic to the human body. BioTE compounds the hormones and supplements to treat the exact levels of the patient’s specific needs. Not all levels are the same for each patient, so synthetic mass-produced drugs will not deliver optimal results necessary to make patients feel better.
